Obviously I love both movies, but the second one is better in my opinion. The best parts for me were pretty much everything. You see, I saw both parts with my best friend in the world and that must be part of the reason why I like them. But the animation was absolutely wonderful, wasn't it? And the soundtrack was superb. All the songs evoke the emotions that visuals alone can't. Then there's the story. It's a little predictable, I'll be frank, but still very good. There's a perfect balance of humor and drama. And who doesn't love Toothless? Hopping around, making those little grumbly noises and being generally adorable. And I appreciate Hiccup's sarcasm. So I ask you; What's your favorite part of the movies? Or your favorite dragon? Favorite scene, etc. Don't be shy!

Oh god I can't even (wow that sounded basic).
I loved everything about the second movie. Seriously. Everything was perfect!! I loved the scene when Stoick sees Valka for the first time. That scene made me cry. I'm not gonna lie I probably teared up for several of the scenes. Stoick's death. When Hiccup gets mad at Toothless. When Hiccup is trying to get Toothless back from his trance and says, "I won't let you go". I get pretty emotional during movies.
Now, some of the guys on this forum may not appreciate it as much, but I think Hiccup grew up pretty nicely heh heh.

The scene where Stoick and Valka are reunited has made me cry every time I watch it. Honestly, I saw his death coming. The tears came after the gloating was over. Even though I saw it coming, I appreciated it and I wouldn't change anything either.

After the Movie had a series and that series ended I just assumed that was the last we would see of the How to train your dragon brand. The second movie made fans more aware of other aspects that people didn't take note of. But my absolute favorite part is the introduction of All the New Dragons not to mention puberty really out did itself when it got a hold of the characters for example: Astrid or Hiccup

Oh I agree. I don't even recognize Hiccup from the first movie. I think another big thing for me was the camera angles. I'm sure there's a better word for that... But it was really poetic.

Omg the second movie… *dies* I actually expected it to suck, because a lot of times sequels don't even come close to the original. But then they pulled a Toy Story and the sequel was even better. And yeah, it was a bit predictable (and wHY DID I HAVE TO WATCH THE TRAILER AND LEARN THAT HICCUP MET HIS MOM I HATE ADVERTISING) but I feel like it pushed boundaries that "kids movies" never really did. Like, Toothless turning evil and ACTUALLY KILLING HICCUP'S DAD was not something I expected, I figured it would be like the first movie and Stoick would magically come back to life. I do feel like it should have taken a little more for Toothless to suddenly become alpha though.

I totally agree about the advertising. They should have cut it off at "Should I know you?" and catch people's attention. But as I've said, I saw the death coming. And it definitely pushed the boundaries. Nothing is scarier than the protagonist's best friend getting spooky eyes and killing said protagonist's father. I will admit that for a second I thought he would magically be alive, but I thrive on that kind of drama. Like, he didn't even get any heartfelt last words. But yes, Toothless should have had to work harder to be alpha.

That's definitely one thing I had a problem with. It would have been a million times better if they hadn't advertised so plainly that Valka was his mom. I think I still might have been able to predict it, but to be honest I'm pretty easy to surprise. I am horrible at predicting movies so even dumb things can be surprising to me haha (but I love it).
